Peter Obi Donates ₦10 Million to Cross River Mission Hospital, Raises Maternal Mortality Concern
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has donated ₦10 million to a mission hospital in Cross River State, while expressing deep concern over Nigeria’s high rate of maternal mortality and calling for increased investment in the country’s healthcare system.
Obi made the donation during a visit to the healthcare facility, where he commended the efforts of medical personnel and faith-based organisations in providing quality healthcare despite limited resources. He said improving access to maternal and child healthcare should remain a national priority, stressing that no woman should lose her life while giving birth due to inadequate medical facilities.
The former Anambra State governor noted that strengthening healthcare infrastructure, equipping hospitals, and supporting frontline health workers are critical to reducing preventable deaths and improving healthcare outcomes across Nigeria. He urged governments at all levels, private organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians to support healthcare institutions that continue to serve vulnerable communities.
The hospital management expressed appreciation for the ₦10 million donation, describing it as a timely intervention that would help improve medical services and patient care. They also appealed for sustained support from public and private stakeholders to enable the facility to expand its operations and meet the growing healthcare needs of residents.
