In preparation for the forthcoming Local Government election in Ogun state, the party leaders of All Progressives Congress in Imeko-Afon Local Government have nominated three out of the nine aspirants jostling for the chairmanship seat.
The three aspirants nominated were: Yayah Fadipe, Olorode Adewale and Olorode Theophilus.
It would be recalled that, the Ogun state Governor, Dapo Abiodun had directed the APC leaders in each local government to prune down the list of aspirants to either two or three aspirants, in the event that a consensus candidate is not picked.
The Governor gave the directive during the APC stakeholders meeting in Abeokuta recently.
However, the Imeko-Afon APC leaders at a meeting held in IBD Hotel, Abeokuta agreed to present the names of the nominated aspirants to the Governor and the party as mandated.
While briefing newsmen after the meeting, one of the leaders who pleaded anonymity confirmed that the process that produced the three aspirants was fair and devoid of any form of irregularity.
He added that the leaders had followed the governor’s directive of pruning down the list of aspirants to a maximum three, where a consensus candidate can not be picked.
According to him “What we have done here today is representative of what the Governor, HE Prince Dapo Abiodun told us to, in order to have a free and fair primary election. We have not been able to elect a consensus candidate, so we had to nominate three aspirants who we believe the best suited for the growth and development of Imeko Afon local government will eventually emerge.”
“Here in Imeko-Afon local government, we have leaders who are peaceful and transparent. We would continue to do our best to promote the peace in our local government and we understand that this election is quite central to maintaining that peace.”
He however lauded the state governor for promoting fairness and transparency in the local government primary elections.
