The Chairman Transition Committee Ijebu Ode Local Government, Engr. Olugbenga Olugbile has flagged off a 2-week vocational skills acquisition training for youths of the Local Government.
The life enhancement skills training, a private initiative, sponsored by the council helmsman, is organized in conjunction with the Speed-Up Ogun Project, an NGO, with the aim of empowering and lifting the people out of poverty.
Olugbile, while flagging off the training programme, held at the Itoro Hall, Ijebu Ode, on Tuesday, noted that that the high rate of unemployment in the community birthed the idea of the training.
He maintained that rather than looking for white-collar jobs that are scarce and unavailable, youths can be gainfully employed, and also become employers of labour through this entrepreneurial training.
“When the youths are empowered positively, the nation is empowered, I urge you to take this training seriously; if you are serious with what you are doing, you are better off”, said the Chairman.
He further enjoined the trainees that irrespective of their educational background, they should take the training serious, as no knowledge acquired is lost.
The two weeks training should be seen as a precious time that can add value to their lives, and should therefore not be wasted.
Speaking earlier, the Programme Facilitator, Princess Oluwagbemisola Ajetunmobi, the Executive Director of the Speed-Up Ogun Project commended the Chairman for his effort at sponsoring the programme.
He described him as someone who loves and cares about the well-being of his people. He urge the trainees to take the advantage of the free training to work towards becoming self-employed and self reliant.
During the 2-week duration, trainees will be trained on various vocational skills such as production of detergents, hair creams, sanitizers, and disinfectants; pastries, cocktails and chapman; make-up and tying of gele; and embellishment and stoning of dresses.
In attendance at the event were members of the Transition Committee, and the Management Team of the local government.
