Kebbi ADC Alleges Malami’s Prosecution Is Politically Motivated Ahead of 2027
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has alleged that the prosecution of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), is politically motivated and designed to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party made the claim while reacting to the ongoing legal proceedings involving the former minister, arguing that the timing of the prosecution has raised concerns about its political implications.
According to the Kebbi ADC, the Federal Government is using anti-corruption agencies to intimidate and silence prominent opposition figures instead of allowing the judicial process to operate without political interference. The party insisted that every Nigerian is entitled to fair treatment under the law, regardless of political affiliation.
The opposition party maintained that while it supports the fight against corruption, such efforts must be transparent, impartial and free from political considerations. It warned that selective prosecution could undermine public confidence in the country’s justice system and democratic institutions.
The ADC further urged the Federal Government to ensure that anti-graft campaigns are conducted fairly and professionally, stressing that the rule of law and due process should remain the guiding principles in all criminal investigations and prosecutions.
Malami is currently facing allegations of financial crimes and money laundering in cases being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The former Attorney-General has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that he will defend himself through the judicial process.
Political observers say the case has become one of the most closely watched legal battles ahead of the 2027 elections, with analysts divided over its political and legal implications.
As court proceedings continue, stakeholders have called for the judiciary to be allowed to determine the matter based solely on the evidence presented before it, without external influence or political pressure.
