Power Minister Apologises to Nigerians Over Widespread Outages, Promises Swift Restoration

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has apologized to Nigerians over the ongoing electricity outages affecting various parts of the country, acknowledging the difficulties faced by citizens and businesses.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the minister expressed regret over the situation, noting that the persistent power disruptions have worsened living conditions, especially amid rising temperatures and increased demand for electricity. He admitted that the outages have placed significant strain on households and economic activities nationwide.
Adelabu explained that several factors are responsible for the current challenges, including issues related to gas supply to power plants and constraints within the electricity infrastructure. He noted that Nigeria’s dependence on gas-fired generation has made the system vulnerable to supply interruptions and operational setbacks.
Despite the challenges, the minister assured Nigerians that the government is taking steps to address the situation. He disclosed that a special monitoring mechanism has been introduced to ensure improved gas supply and better coordination within the power sector. He also said that ongoing maintenance and corrective measures are expected to restore more stable electricity supply in the coming days.
He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to long-term reforms aimed at strengthening power generation, transmission, and distribution across the country. According to him, efforts are underway to build a more resilient electricity system capable of meeting the needs of a growing population and economy.
Adelabu urged Nigerians to remain patient, assuring that the current difficulties are temporary and that concerted efforts are being made to improve power supply and reduce outages across the nation.
