Adelabu Rejects SDP Defection Rumours, Threatens Legal Action Over False Reports
Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has strongly denied reports alleging that he has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the Social Democratic Party, describing the claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated.
Adelabu, through a statement issued by his media team, insisted that he remains a committed member of the APC and has no intention of leaving the party. He said the rumours circulating on social media and some online platforms were the handiwork of individuals seeking to create unnecessary political tension and confusion among his supporters.
The minister expressed concern over what he described as deliberate attempts to spread misinformation regarding his political future, stressing that he has remained focused on his responsibilities in the Federal Government and his commitment to the development of the power sector.
According to him, there has been no discussion, negotiation, or arrangement whatsoever regarding a move to the SDP or any other political party. He urged members of the public to disregard the reports and rely only on information released through his official channels and authorized representatives.
Adelabu further warned that those behind the publication and circulation of the false reports could face legal consequences. He noted that his legal team had been directed to identify the sources of the misinformation and take appropriate legal action against individuals or organizations found culpable.
The minister reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and reiterated his support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that his focus remains on delivering results in the nation’s electricity sector and contributing to the government’s broader development agenda.
Political observers believe the clarification may help put an end to speculations that have recently surrounded the political ambitions of several prominent figures ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
The latest statement from Adelabu underscores growing concerns among public office holders over the spread of unverified political information and highlights the increasing use of legal measures to combat misinformation in Nigeria’s political space.
