Fund political parties to prevent corruption in our system, NNPP national chair tells INEC
The National Chairman of New Nigeria People’s Party, Dr Borniface Aniebonam has urged the Independent Electoral Commission to finance the running of the political parties so as to curb corruption and godfatherism in Nigeria’s politics.
Aniebonam said this during the National Executive Council Meeting of NNPP held at Rockview Hotel, Apapa in Lagos.
He lamented that the non Funding of Political Parties is the major key to corruption, stressing that ruling parties have access to public funds at the detriments of opposition parties.
He further stressed that elected officers in power were always tempted to amass wealth through corrupt means to fund their reelection campaigns.
The NNPP national chairman however noted that funding of political parties by INEC will give room for advancement of a new Nigeria.
Aniebonam also noted that the return of the “Funding Era “ by INEC will surely allow healthy growth of Political Parties making them stronger for healthy competition with bigger Parties
According to the NNPP boss, recognizing the fact that funding is the major problem confronting political parties development in Nigeria, the direct Funding of these few existing political parties will afford every ordinary Nigerian a great opportunity to participate actively in politics within a space of Level Playing Ground.
Aniebonam also challenged INEC to do more on Credible Election.
In his words, “the impartiality of election umpire is the bedrock of egalitarian society.
“New Nigeria will surely become possible when the real winners of Elections are the ones declares. Winners by Election Umpires”.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Chairman of NNPP, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday in reaction to the successful outcome of the NEC meeting said the opportunity to have a great Leader like Dr Borniface O Aniebonam come but once in one hundred years.
He added, “Our National Chairman is God’s Sent. He is the one Commission by God to provide enabling platform for a New Nigeria!
“Working with a Unique Leader like Dr Borniface O Aniebonam is a great privilege. I am bold enough to call on all Nigerians to come closer and join this great movement of A New Nigeria . New Nigeria is Possible and achievable through the Platform of NNPP”.
