FIFA Sanctions Israel FA Over Racism, Orders Reforms

World football governing body, FIFA, has fined the Israel Football Association (IFA) 150,000 Swiss francs for breaching its anti-discrimination rules.
The sanction followed an investigation which found that the IFA failed to take adequate action against persistent racist behaviour, particularly involving supporters of Beitar Jerusalem. FIFA’s disciplinary committee described the violations as multiple breaches of its anti-discrimination obligations.
In addition to the fine, the Israeli FA was issued a warning and directed to implement measures aimed at combating discrimination in football. These include displaying visible anti-discrimination banners at its next three FIFA competition home matches with messages promoting unity and equality.
FIFA also mandated that part of the fine be invested in a comprehensive plan to address and prevent future incidents of racism, including educational and monitoring initiatives within the sport.
The disciplinary action stems from complaints submitted in 2024, which prompted FIFA to examine how the Israeli FA handled allegations of discriminatory conduct within its domestic football system.
