Accident claims 3 lives on Lagos-Ibadan expressway
Three persons were on Monday confirmed dead while 14 others sustained injuries in an accident at Saapade area on the Lagos – Ibadan expressway in Ogun State.
The accident, according to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi involved a Mazda bus marked AKD 53 XN travelling from Ibadan to Lagos and a Ford bus marked RGB 490 XA travelling from Lagos to Ikire.
He disclosed that the accident which occurred at a diversion area on the expressway was caused by excessive speed and reckless driving which resulted into head on collision between the two buses.
Akinbiyi added that 17 people were involved in the accident all male adults, 14 people got injured while three persons died.
He said, “The eyewitness account posited that the driver of the Ford bus coming from Lagos to Ikire was among the three dead victim’s while the other two were among the passengers in the Mazda bus,”he said.
Akinbiyi explained that the Injured victims were rescued to Victory Hospital, Ogere, State Hospital, Isara and Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu while the deceased were deposited at FOS Mortuary, Ipara.
