The candidate of the All Progressives Congress Biodun Oyebanji has built up an unassailable lead as results from 12 out of the 16 local governments in Ekiti became available on Saturday night.
Oyebanji was leading the other candidates by a wide margin and it will take a miracle to stop him from being elected as successor to Governor Kayode Fayemi in October.
So far, Oyebanji has won 11 of the 12 councils declared.
He lost Efon Alaye, the home council of PDP candidate, Bisi Kolawole by 4,012 votes to Kolawole’s 6,303 votes.
In contrast, Oyebanji narrowly won Ido-Osi Local government, the base of SDP candidate, Engineer Olusegun Oni.
He won the remaining 10 councils emphatically.
In all, Oyebanji has polled 126,636 votes, more than the combined votes of his two major rivals, Oni and Kolawole.
Oni is second with 50,370 votes while the PDP candidate is third with 45,798 votes.
