“Abiodun’s Greed for Power Tears Ogun APC Apart, Sparks Revolt Over OGD Persecution”

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is facing mounting backlash from powerful forces within the All Progressives Congress (APC), following explosive allegations that he has launched a coordinated campaign to silence, smear, and politically cripple former Governor and serving Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD).
A coalition of senior APC stakeholders gathered on Tuesday, accusing the Governor of running the party like a private estate while allegedly persecuting Daniel one of the state’s most respected political figures — ahead of the 2027 elections.
Stakeholders Go Ballistic
At a fiery press conference attended by party elders and stalwarts including Gen. Olumuyiwa Okunowo (Rtd.), Giwa Comrade Niyi Osoba (Ph.D.), Otunba (Dr.) Korede Okusanya, and Princess Ronke Oduneye, the group described Governor Abiodun as a “divider-in-chief” whose autocratic style is fast destroying the APC in Ogun State.
According to them, the purported suspension of Senator Daniel from the party which surfaced mysteriously on Facebook was a laughable fabrication masterminded by the Governor’s media team to ridicule a national leader.
“It is the height of political madness for anyone to announce the suspension of a serving senator on Facebook without a letterhead, without an executive meeting, and without the knowledge of the state chairman,” the leaders said.
They added that the unsigned statement, allegedly circulated by one Lekan Adeniran, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, was part of a larger propaganda war to discredit Daniel and manipulate the narrative ahead of 2027.
Facebook Suspension and Media Mischief
The stakeholders mocked the so-called suspension notice, describing it as “a tragic comedy that only exposes how desperate Abiodun’s camp has become.”
They claimed the Governor’s aide has practically converted the APC’s communication channels into an extension of the Governor’s office — issuing fake press statements, intimidating members, and silencing dissenting voices.
“We are watching a Governor who believes he owns the party,” they said. “Every opposing voice is branded an enemy. Even journalists are being misled with fake press releases to sustain a lie.”
From Ally to Target: The Fall of a Political Alliance
Sources within the party recall that Otunba Gbenga Daniel was instrumental to Dapo Abiodun’s emergence in 2019.
Back then, OGD mobilized his structures, followers, and goodwill to secure victory for Abiodun a man many described as “politically lightweight” at the time.
But since assuming power, Abiodun has allegedly repaid that loyalty with humiliation and betrayal.
The Governor is now accused of plotting to dismantle Daniel’s influence in Ogun East and ensure he has no say in the 2027 political landscape.
“It’s a sad story of betrayal,” said one of the leaders. “Without OGD’s structure, Abiodun would never have been governor. But today, he’s fighting the same man who lifted him up.”
2019 Glory, 2023 Reality
Party insiders have compared Abiodun’s dwindling popularity with Daniel’s rising influence.
While OGD recorded a landslide victory in the 2023 senatorial election with 115,147 votes, Abiodun barely clung to his seat with just a 13,000-vote margin, losing seven out of nine local governments in his senatorial district including his own hometown of Iperu.
“The numbers don’t lie,” one member noted. “OGD is loved by the people; Abiodun is losing them fast.”
Demolition, Intimidation, and Fear Politics
The crisis took a darker turn last year when the Governor ordered the demolition of DATKEM Plaza, a five-storey building owned by Senator Daniel’s wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, just days before its grand opening.
The incident sparked nationwide outrage, with many describing it as political vengeance in disguise.
Despite the provocation, OGD maintained a calm, statesmanlike response choosing legal redress over confrontation.
But insiders say the persecution hasn’t stopped: more properties linked to Daniel have reportedly been targeted by government agencies under “questionable pretenses.”
One-Man Party, Crumbling Empire
According to the aggrieved stakeholders, Ogun APC has effectively become a one-man party.
All critical decisions, they claimed, now emanate from the Governor’s lodge — bypassing constitutional organs and long-time party members.
“There are rumours that some local executives are being forced to swear loyalty oaths in traditional shrines,” one leader alleged. “That is how bad things have become.”
They accused Abiodun of deliberately suffocating internal democracy, replacing credible voices with cronies, and weakening the same structures that secured his earlier victories.
Call for Tinubu’s Intervention
The leaders called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC National Working Committee to urgently intervene before Ogun APC collapses completely.
“This Governor’s tyranny is unsustainable,” they declared. “He is fighting everyone from Senator Gbenga Daniel to Senator Ibikunle Amosun. If this continues, APC will suffer an embarrassing defeat in 2027.”
They urged the national leadership to restructure the party’s Ogun hierarchy and restore balance, warning that Abiodun’s dictatorial tendencies are alienating core loyalists.
