AAC Targets 36 States as Sowore–Magashi Campaign Council Takes Shape
The African Action Congress (AAC) is moving to strengthen its nationwide political organisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election, unveiling a campaign structure designed to connect digital supporters with grassroots mobilisation across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The inauguration of the AAC Sowore–Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign Council signals the party’s intention to expand its reach beyond online political engagement by establishing coordinated structures at state, local government, ward and polling-unit levels. The party announced the development on Friday, October 9, 2026.
Rather than focusing solely on campaign publicity, the new arrangement places emphasis on organising volunteers, coordinating field operations, deploying digital communication tools and strengthening the party’s presence in communities ahead of the next general election.
The campaign council is expected to coordinate the presidential ambition of Omoyele Sowore, with Haruna Magashi as his running mate. According to the party’s announcement, Abdullahi Usman will serve as Director-General, while Juwon Sanyaolu has been appointed Campaign Council Secretary. The structure also includes deputies responsible for Strategy and Political Affairs, as well as Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation.
The AAC has established 10 national directorates to oversee critical campaign responsibilities, including strategy and policy, grassroots mobilisation, labour and civil society engagement, publicity and communications, digital media, data and technology, election operations, finance, legal compliance, administration and field operations.
One notable aspect of the arrangement is the planned integration of digital mobilisation with physical political organisation. The party identified its SOWORENOW application as an existing tool for coordinating supporters and said the new campaign council would strengthen, rather than replace, that digital infrastructure.
This approach reflects the campaign’s stated intention to reach voters through multiple channels, including online engagement, community-level activities, volunteers, canvassers and polling agents. However, the effectiveness of the strategy will depend on how successfully the party translates its announced structure into active local organisations and sustained engagement with voters.
The campaign council also provides an organisational framework for communicating the AAC’s political message. In announcing the inauguration, the party argued that the 2027 election should be about changing Nigeria’s political direction, rather than simply replacing the occupant of the presidential office. That position forms part of its wider call for political and socioeconomic change.
Sowore secured the AAC presidential ticket in May 2026, setting the stage for his third consecutive presidential contest under the party’s platform. His campaign now faces the task of building broader public engagement while presenting its proposals on governance, economic opportunity, security and accountability to the electorate.
With the inauguration of the campaign council, attention will increasingly turn to the AAC’s ability to activate its proposed nationwide network, sustain its digital engagement and demonstrate that its organisational plans can translate into meaningful voter contact. The party has announced its structure; the next phase will be implementation, community outreach and the presentation of a clear policy agenda to Nigerians ahead of 2027.
