s Queiroz Resigns as Ghana Coach After 2026 FIFA World Cup Exit
Portuguese football manager Carlos Queiroz has resigned as head coach of Ghana’s national team following the Black Stars’ exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz announced his decision after Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, bringing an end to his short spell in charge of the West African side.
In his farewell message, the 73-year-old thanked the Ghana Football Association, the players, coaching crew and supporters for the opportunity to lead the Black Stars. He said he was proud of the team’s efforts despite their elimination from the tournament.
Queiroz also noted that Ghana’s long-term football progress would depend on strengthening structures beyond the pitch, especially in talent development and player support systems.
Under his leadership, Ghana reached the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since 2010 before losing to Colombia. Despite calls from some players and fans for him to continue, the veteran coach decided to step aside.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to announce its next steps regarding the Black Stars’ technical bench ahead of future international assignments.
