NDC Uploads Peter Obi’s Name to INEC Portal Despite Ongoing Registration Dispute
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that it has successfully uploaded the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the nomination portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), marking a significant step in its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, who disclosed that the party was granted access to the INEC portal after taking legal steps to challenge a recent court ruling affecting its registration.
According to Dickson, the NDC has already filed a notice of appeal alongside an application for a stay of execution against the court judgment. He said the legal processes had been served on the INEC Chairman and urged the electoral commission to act in accordance with the law while the appeal remains pending.
He further revealed that while Peter Obi’s nomination has been successfully uploaded, the name of the party’s vice-presidential candidate will be submitted after the completion of the necessary documentation. The party added that the upload of names for its other candidates across the country is ongoing in line with the electoral timetable.
The development comes days after the NDC alleged that it had been denied access to the INEC nomination portal following a Federal High Court judgment that nullified its registration. The party has maintained that it remains a legally recognised political party pending the determination of its appeal.
Party leaders expressed confidence that the latest development strengthens their participation in the 2027 presidential race, insisting they will continue to pursue all available legal remedies while complying with INEC’s electoral guidelines.
