Ekiti Governorship Election: Oyebanji Urges Peaceful Campaigns, Violence-Free Poll
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has appealed to residents, political parties, and stakeholders to embrace peace and maintain decorum ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The governor stressed the importance of a peaceful electoral process, urging politicians and their supporters to conduct their campaigns responsibly and avoid actions capable of disrupting public order. He noted that elections should be seen as a democratic exercise rather than a contest that promotes hostility or division among citizens.
Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election, emphasizing that all eligible voters should be allowed to exercise their constitutional rights without fear, intimidation, or harassment.
According to the governor, the progress and stability enjoyed in Ekiti State over the years must not be jeopardized by political differences. He called on political actors to place the state’s development above personal ambitions and work together to preserve peace before, during, and after the election.
The governor also urged security agencies, electoral officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious organizations to continue collaborating in promoting a peaceful atmosphere throughout the election period. He expressed confidence in the ability of relevant institutions to deliver a transparent and credible electoral process.
Oyebanji encouraged citizens to participate actively in the democratic process by coming out to vote peacefully and respecting the outcome of the election as determined by the will of the people.
Political observers have described the governor’s appeal as timely, especially as campaign activities intensify across the state ahead of the governorship contest. They noted that peaceful elections remain essential to strengthening democratic institutions and sustaining political stability.
As preparations for the Ekiti governorship election gather momentum, stakeholders continue to emphasize the need for issue-based campaigns, voter education, and adherence to electoral laws to ensure a successful and violence-free poll.
