Alleged Fraud: Former SDP Chairman Shehu Gabam Arraigned Over Party Funds, Forgery Claims
Former National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja over alleged misappropriation of party funds, criminal breach of trust, and forgery.
Gabam was arraigned alongside former SDP National Youth Leader, Chukwuma Uchechukwu, following a legal action initiated by the party’s current leadership over alleged financial irregularities linked to the management of party resources during his tenure.
According to court documents, the defendants were accused of diverting party funds and engaging in unauthorized financial transactions, actions which allegedly violated the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.
The charges were filed after an internal review of the party’s financial records reportedly uncovered discrepancies involving substantial sums of money. The SDP leadership stated that the move to prosecute the former chairman was aimed at promoting accountability and restoring confidence within the party structure.
During the court proceedings, Gabam pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him. The court, however, granted him bail with conditions that included the provision of sureties and submission of relevant travel documents pending the determination of the case.
The case has been adjourned for further hearing as political observers continue to monitor developments within the opposition party ahead of future elections.
