17 Reps Dump ADC for NDC as Political Realignment Intensifies Ahead of 2027 Elections
No fewer than 17 members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), signaling a major shift in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defections were formally announced during plenary by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, who read out letters submitted by the affected lawmakers.
The legislators cited unresolved internal crises within the ADC, including leadership disputes and structural challenges, as the primary reason for their decision. According to them, the lingering issues had hindered effective participation and weakened the party’s cohesion.
The defectors cut across several states, reflecting the nationwide scope of the political shift and marking one of the most significant waves of defection in recent legislative activity.
In a related development, Leke Abejide also exited the ADC but defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further highlighting the ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political space.
The development comes amid broader opposition restructuring, with analysts suggesting that the growing movement toward the NDC could reshape party alliances, influence legislative balance, and impact strategies ahead of the next general elections.
