FULL PROFILE: Nigerian Army Mourns Brig. Gen. Oseni Braimah Killed in Boko Haram Ambush

Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, has been confirmed dead following a deadly overnight attack by insurgents suspected to be Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Borno State.
The attack occurred in the Benisheikh area of Kaga Local Government, where militants launched coordinated assaults on multiple military positions along the Maiduguri–Damaturu axis. Despite resistance from troops, the attackers overwhelmed parts of the base, leading to heavy casualties, including senior officers.
Military sources said Braimah led his troops during the counteroffensive against the attackers before he was killed in action. His death has been described as a significant blow to ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the region.
Reports indicate that the insurgents attacked in the early hours of the night, targeting strategic military locations and engaging soldiers in intense gunfire that lasted several hours. Reinforcements were later deployed to repel the attackers and restore order in the area.
Brig. Gen. Braimah was a seasoned officer with extensive experience in command and training roles within the Nigerian Army. Over the years, he held several key positions, including instructional and operational leadership roles, contributing to military strategy, officer development, and national security planning.
His service record reflected decades of dedication to military operations both within Nigeria and in international peacekeeping assignments.
The Nigerian Army has continued clearance operations in the affected area while assessing the full extent of casualties and damage caused by the attack.
The incident adds to growing concerns over renewed insurgent activity in Nigeria’s northeast, where Boko Haram and ISWAP factions continue to launch attacks on military and civilian targets.
