Abiodun Distributes 40 SUVs to Ogun Monarchs, Tasks Them on Security, Investment Drive
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday presented 40 brand-new SUVs to traditional rulers across the state, describing the gesture as a recognition of their continued support and a strategic step to enhance their effectiveness.
The vehicles were handed over during the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Addressing the monarchs, the governor emphasised their critical role as custodians of culture and key intermediaries between government and the people. He noted that the vehicles would not only improve their comfort but also boost their mobility in maintaining peace and stability within their domains.
Abiodun commended the traditional rulers for sustaining the peaceful atmosphere that has enabled his administration’s development agenda to thrive, assuring them of sustained collaboration and inclusion in governance.
He, however, charged the monarchs to foster an investor-friendly environment in their communities, warning that hostility toward investors could undermine the state’s economic growth.
The governor expressed concern over reports of uncooperative attitudes in some areas, particularly in Yewa South, Ipokia, and Ijebu North, condemning actions that discourage investors willing to commit substantial resources to the state.
According to him, such investments are vital for job creation, infrastructure development, and overall economic progress, stressing that communities must embrace development rather than frustrate it.
“We have received disturbing reports about the conduct of some communities during recent investor engagements. This is unacceptable,” he said, urging stakeholders to support efforts aimed at positioning Ogun as a preferred investment destination.
Abiodun also reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding investments, warning that activities capable of driving investors away would not be tolerated.
On security, the governor called for increased vigilance among traditional institutions and residents, urging prompt reporting of suspicious activities to security agencies. While acknowledging efforts by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address national security challenges, he stressed the importance of local cooperation in maintaining peace in Ogun State.
The governor further cautioned traditional rulers against indiscriminate land allocation and involvement in land disputes, describing land as a critical economic asset that must be managed responsibly.
“Our land is our oil. It must not be allocated carelessly. Transparency and accountability in land matters are essential to attracting genuine investors,” he said.
He also warned property owners against leasing their buildings to individuals engaged in criminal activities, stating that any property found to be used for illegal purposes would be demolished.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hazmat, said the meeting—the first in 2026—focused on strengthening collaboration between government and traditional institutions, particularly in the areas of security and development.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Council and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, commended the governor’s developmental strides and reaffirmed the council’s support for policies aimed at economic growth and stability.
