2027 Race: Ministers Set to Quit Tinubu’s Cabinet Ahead of Deadline
Several ministers in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet are expected to resign their positions as the March 31 deadline approaches for political appointees seeking elective offices in the 2027 general elections.
The directive requires all affected officials to step down in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, which mandates resignation before participating in party primaries.
Among those reportedly preparing to exit the cabinet is Adebayo Adelabu, who is believed to be positioning himself for another shot at the Oyo State governorship. His recent political engagements have fueled speculation about his ambition.
Also likely to resign is Bosun Tijani, who has been linked with a possible governorship bid in Ogun State. Though he has yet to formally declare, his increasing consultations have intensified expectations.
Similarly, Saidu Alkali is said to be eyeing the governorship race in Gombe State, with indications that preparations for his exit are already underway.
In Borno State, Abubakar Kyari is also reportedly considering a return to state politics, with plans to contest for the governorship.
The anticipated resignations reflect growing political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, as cabinet members with ambitions begin repositioning within their respective states.
The development highlights increasing political activity as aspirants move to comply with legal requirements while intensifying consultations and grassroots mobilisation.
