2027: Kwara APC Stakeholders Back Consensus Candidate
Ahead of Governorship Race
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the three senatorial districts in Kwara State have expressed readiness to support any consensus arrangement adopted by the party leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party leaders, under the umbrella of the Amalgamated APC Elders and Stakeholders Forum, made their position known during a press briefing held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Prof. Khalid Dasuki and Ambassador Julius Balogun reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the APC National Working Committee.
According to the stakeholders, the adoption of consensus arrangements in several states has helped strengthen party unity and internal cohesion, urging Kwara APC members to embrace a similar path.
They recalled that President Tinubu played a significant role in stabilising the party in Kwara before the 2019 elections, which eventually led to the emergence of Governor AbdulRazaq and the success of the “Otoge” political movement.
The stakeholders stressed that the APC must present a popular, credible, and competent candidate capable of defeating opposition parties in the state.
They also warned against any political development capable of returning Kwara to what they described as the era of godfatherism and political dominance.
The group pledged to mobilise party faithful across the state in support of whatever decision is eventually reached by the APC leadership ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
