2027 Elections: Datti Baba-Ahmed Says Only Candidates with Proven Integrity Can Defeat Tinubu
Nigeria’s former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has declared that any challenger seeking to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next general election must possess unquestionable character and credibility.
Speaking during a televised interview, Baba-Ahmed stressed that defeating an incumbent president like Tinubu would require more than political alliances or popularity, insisting that only a candidate with a clean and impeccable record can earn the trust of Nigerians.
Datti Questions 2023 Election Outcome
Baba-Ahmed maintained his long-held position that the Labour Party won the 2023 presidential election, drawing parallels with the June 12 election, which was widely believed to have been won by Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola despite the absence of an official declaration.
He also raised concerns about the conduct of the election, particularly the shutdown of the electoral results viewing portal, suggesting it undermined transparency.
Criticism of APC Government
The former lawmaker argued that the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress reflects its inability to significantly improve the lives of Nigerians, citing insecurity and economic hardship as key indicators.
According to him, Nigeria has capable and credible individuals who can lead effectively, but many of them have remained outside active politics.
Announces Exit from Labour Party
In a major political development, Baba-Ahmed revealed he would be leaving the Labour Party, stating that his resignation would take effect at midnight.
He confirmed his next political move would be to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), describing it as a party with strong historical roots and ideological direction.
