2Baba Dismisses Wizkid–Fela Comparison as Unfair
Veteran Nigerian music star, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has described the comparison between Grammy-winning singer Wizkid and Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti as unfair and misplaced.
Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, 2Baba said drawing parallels between the two artists does not make sense, stressing that they belong to different eras with distinct missions, sounds, and cultural influences. According to him, such comparisons undermine the unique legacies both musicians have built in their respective times.
He explained that while Wizkid has made remarkable global achievements and helped project Nigerian music to the world, Fela’s impact went far beyond entertainment, as he used his music as a tool for activism and social change.
2Baba urged fans and commentators to appreciate each artist for their individual contributions to music rather than pitting them against one another, noting that greatness should be measured within context.
