NFF Moves to Retain Chelle with Improved Deal Despite Setbacks

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly making plans to offer Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, an improved contract, signaling continued confidence in his leadership despite recent shortcomings.
The football body is said to be considering a significant salary increase for the coach, with his monthly earnings likely to rise to about $100,000. However, the figure remains below the $130,000 reportedly requested by Chelle, as negotiations between both parties continue.
Chelle, who is under contract until 2027, has come under scrutiny following a difficult spell with the national team. During his tenure, Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and also fell short of expectations at the Africa Cup of Nations, finishing third instead of reaching the final as widely anticipated.
Despite these challenges, the NFF appears determined to maintain stability by keeping faith with the Franco-Malian tactician. His coaching style and management approach have reportedly attracted interest from other teams, prompting efforts to secure his long-term commitment.
Discussions are ongoing, with both sides also focusing on broader issues such as technical control, team rebuilding, and long-term development strategies aimed at strengthening the Super Eagles.
The move highlights the federation’s commitment to continuity, as it seeks to rebuild and reposition the national team for future competitions while banking on Chelle’s potential to deliver improved results.
