Nigerians in Cambodia Face Immigration Deadline as Authorities Warn of Arrests, Deportation
Nigerians residing in Cambodia have been urged to regularize their immigration status or leave the Southeast Asian country before May 31, 2026, following a fresh directive issued by Cambodian immigration authorities.
The Cambodian General Department of Immigration, operating under the Ministry of Interior, announced that a temporary immigration waiver granted to affected foreign nationals will expire at the end of May. Authorities warned that individuals who remain in the country without valid immigration documents after the deadline could face arrest, detention, fines, deportation, and possible prosecution.
The development has attracted significant attention among Nigerian residents and other foreign communities living in Cambodia, with many seeking clarification on visa renewals, residency permits, and work authorization requirements.
According to the immigration agency, the directive is part of the Cambodian government’s broader efforts to strengthen immigration compliance, improve border security, and combat transnational crimes, including human trafficking, cybercrime, and illegal migration.
Officials emphasized that the enforcement action is not specifically targeted at Nigerians but applies to all foreign nationals whose immigration status remains unresolved.
Foreign residents have been advised to immediately verify the validity of their visas, work permits, and residency documents and take the necessary steps to comply with Cambodian immigration regulations before the deadline.
Authorities reiterated that strict enforcement measures will commence after May 31, with immigration officers expected to intensify checks and take action against individuals found to be residing in the country illegally.
The latest immigration warning highlights Cambodia’s renewed commitment to enforcing its immigration laws and ensuring that all foreign nationals living within its borders maintain valid legal status.
