Nigeria Customs Projects ₦11.07 Trillion Revenue Target for 2026
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has projected a revenue target of ₦11.074 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, expressing confidence that ongoing reforms, digital transformation, and improved trade facilitation measures will sustain its revenue growth.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed the projection while defending the agency’s 2026 budget proposal before the National Assembly. He said the target reflects the Service’s commitment to boosting government revenue while promoting legitimate trade and strengthening border management.
According to Adeniyi, the projected revenue comprises ₦5.542 trillion for the Federation Account, ₦1.491 trillion for non-Federation accounts, ₦2.273 trillion from Import Value Added Tax (VAT), and approximately ₦1.266 trillion expected from the four per cent Free-on-Board (FOB) levy.
The Customs boss acknowledged that the Federal Government’s recent reduction in import duties and levies on new and used vehicles could affect customs earnings. However, he maintained that improved compliance, expanded automation, intelligence-driven operations, and enhanced cargo clearance systems would help offset any revenue losses.
He noted that the Service exceeded its 2025 revenue target by generating ₦7.277 trillion, surpassing the approved target of ₦6.584 trillion. Adeniyi attributed the achievement to ongoing institutional reforms, stronger enforcement against smuggling, and increased adoption of technology across Customs operations.
Lawmakers commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its improved performance and expressed optimism that the agency would achieve its ambitious 2026 revenue target through sustained reforms and enhanced operational efficiency.
