Political activities ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections are gathering momentum in Kebbi State as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) pledged to provide free fuel to support the campaign activities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris.
National President of IPMAN, Abubakar Dakingari, announced the commitment during a courtesy visit by a delegation led by Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed, alongside media aides of Governor Idris.
The development represents another significant expression of support for Tinubu and Idris as political groups, party stakeholders and members of the business community begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, Dakingari said the association was prepared to provide free petroleum products for campaign activities, while expressing confidence in the leadership of Governor Idris.
Dakingari attributed the governor’s political acceptance to what he described as his achievements and connection with ordinary people, particularly across infrastructure, education, healthcare and human development.
The IPMAN leader maintained that Governor Idris deserved the opportunity to continue his administration, describing him as a preferred political choice for the people of Kebbi.
The declaration is particularly significant because fuel constitutes a major component of campaign logistics in Nigeria, where political organisations frequently travel across large geographical areas for rallies, meetings, grassroots mobilisation and other electioneering activities.
A commitment to provide petroleum products could therefore reduce some of the transportation and logistical costs associated with political mobilisation when campaigns formally get underway.
Reports from Kebbi indicate that the support extends beyond the petroleum marketers. Earlier in August, a forum comprising APC aspirants for Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly positions unanimously endorsed Tinubu and Idris for the 2027 elections and pledged to mobilise support for the party.
Governor Idris had also publicly pledged earlier in the year to mobilise Kebbi State behind President Tinubu in the presidential election, declaring that his political structure would work towards delivering the state for the President.
The emerging endorsements suggest that the APC is moving towards consolidating its political structures in Kebbi as preparations for 2027 intensify.
For the party, maintaining unity among government officials, business interests, grassroots organisations and political stakeholders could become critical as opposition parties also prepare for the elections.
Kebbi Government Highlights Development Record
Responding during the IPMAN meeting, Commissioner for Information and Culture Yakubu Ahmed said the administration had recorded achievements in infrastructure and other sectors since Governor Idris assumed office.
He maintained that the governor had worked to fulfil his campaign promises while promoting peace, unity and development across the state.
According to the commissioner, development projects are not limited to Birnin Kebbi but are being extended across the state’s four emirates.
Such claims are expected to become central to the governor’s re-election campaign, with the administration likely to present its record in infrastructure, education, healthcare and human development as justification for seeking another mandate.
