Millions of residents across Cuba were thrown into darkness following a major collapse of the country’s national electricity grid, worsening the ongoing energy crisis in the island nation.
The outage affected a vast portion of the population, disrupting homes, businesses, and essential public services. Officials attributed the failure to issues within the transmission system, compounded by persistent fuel shortages and aging infrastructure that have strained the power sector for years.
Power restoration efforts have begun in phases, with some areas gradually reconnecting through localized grids. However, large parts of the country remain without electricity, forcing residents to endure extended hours of blackout conditions.
Cuba’s energy challenges have steadily intensified due to limited fuel supply, deteriorating power facilities, and insufficient maintenance. Reduced access to imported oil has further weakened the country’s ability to generate and distribute electricity effectively.
