My life at risk, killer of my husband still witch-hunting me over property – Woman cries out

A mother of one identified as Shotayo Toluwanimi Olamide, has cried out over an alleged threat to life by suspected killer of her husband, Gbenga Opaleye who was reportedly murdered on December 18, 2022.

Olamide in a petition accused a woman identified as Madam Folasade Opaleye to have been responsible for the death of her husband over access to the properties of her husband’s father, Toba Opaleye.

Olamide lamented that the woman who showed up after the death of her father-in-law claimed she had an affair and gave birth to a child reportedly belonging to the late popular broadcaster, Toba Opeleye.

Olamide said since the woman surfaced, she and her family had been receiving series of life threatening messages which was never taken serious untill the sudden attack on their homes and the killing of her husband.

While lamenting that she did not know where to go, Olamide said she is doing everything to ensure she protected her child from the said woman who allegedly had been threatening them.

She said, “I got married to late Opaleye Oluwaseun Gbenga, who died on 18th December 2022, through murder attack.
My union to Opaleye oluwaseun gbenga produced one child named Opaleye Richard Iremide,a male born on 25th September 2020.

I got married to my late husband on 11-12-2018, he was a public servant with the Ogun state ministry of Agric Abeokuta, he was a diligent and easy going guy, he happens to be the first born and son of his late Father who was a renowned radio presenter and broadcaster in Ogun state back then(Late Toba opaleye),who died before I got married to my husband.

As at the Time of my husband’s father’s death, his mum, Mrs. Opaleye Modupe, was the only legally married woman and only wife known to everyone by Late Toba Opaleye.

“According to my husband before his demise, there was a woman who came shortly after his father late Toba Opaleye’s death, claiming she had a son for the deceased and which she is entitled to part of the deceased property.

“This development brought about commotion and uproar within the families and friends of my late husband’s deceased father (Toba opaleye), as some of them claimed they were aware of the development which was hidden during his life time, however other parties from the family and friends kicked against this development and stood firm behind the widow, who happens to be my mother-in-law.

“This was the situation on ground when I got married, and series of treats and attacks had been in record before I came into the family, because my late husband Opaleye Oluwaseun Gbenga happens to be the main beneficiary of his late father’s will, which doesn’t go well with this said woman that surfaced after his father’s demise.

“My late husband had been under threat and harassment from this said woman named Madam Opaleye Folasade as claimed by her., upon which the report of this situation was filed at the Nigeria police department.

“On 1st October 2022, during Nigeria independence day, there was a national holiday, and me and my late husband had decided to go for an outing to celebrate the independence day, while we were away at the cultural center in Abeokuta for relaxation, we were called by our neighbor, Mr Lugboso that strange faces were noticed gaining entry into our compound, before we rushed back home, the whole house had been ransacked and scattered allover, this wasn’t a surprise because a note was left that he should release the documents in his possession or he faces more wrath.

“When this situation was getting tensed, and as the Nigeria police couldn’t provide a sustainable security guard due to the inspector general of police instructions to withdraw all police and ordelays from private duties, we decided that we go exile by relocating, because he couldn’t go to other parts of the country and because of his job which is within Abeokuta where we reside as requested for transfer weren’t granted due to shortage of staffs at his place of work and moreso security situation in all parts of the country weren’t appealing Boko Haram and bandits in the north and IPOB and ESN in the southern part of Nigeria, including cases of kidnapping, also we concluded he apply for his master’s programs in UK to avert the looming danger that could occur.

“During this period as the processing was on, he decided that I should go and request for a custody of our son, so that if he travels ahead of us as dependants, I will have the rightful custody of our son, pending the time we will
able to join him in UK.

“During this period we were been sleeping around friends houses to seek for safety, not knowing we were still being monitored by this woman and her gang.

“On December 13, 2022, we returned back home hoping the tension had gone, on 18 December 2022, the worst happened, as l went to the market to stock up the house for the Xmas, upon returning back home, I noticed unusual silence within our house environment, getting inside along with my kid was my husband lying lifeless on the floor in the sitting room. I dropped my kid and quickly rushed to check on him, I discovered he must have been strangled, I shouted with my last breath to seek for help , our neighbor, Mr lugboso and his wife rushed in as we took him to the hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

“However, when my husband’s death was reported at the police station, it was noted that the accused person was still a suspect, upon which no evidence can still be traced to her on this evil act, so she was released days after her arrest, which gave her more stance to persist on her mission underground.

“Upon this above, I do receive strange calls of treats after I had lost my husband, and I know am not in safe hands with my innocent kid, as the tensed security and economic situation in Nigeria is not helping matters, as my neighbor and mother-in-law advised me to abscond because of the safety of my innocent child.
