Jimoh Ibrahim: Africa Is Rich, Does Not Need Foreign Aid
Businessman and Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Jimoh Ibrahim, has declared that Africa possesses abundant natural and human resources capable of driving sustainable development without relying on foreign aid.
Speaking on Africa’s economic future, Ibrahim argued that the continent’s greatest challenge is not a lack of resources but the inability to effectively harness and manage its vast wealth. He maintained that Africa is richly endowed with minerals, agricultural potential, energy resources and a youthful population, all of which can transform the continent into a global economic powerhouse if properly utilised.
The lawmaker urged African leaders to shift their focus from dependence on external assistance to implementing policies that promote industrialisation, value addition, innovation and regional economic integration. According to him, strengthening institutions, improving governance and investing in infrastructure and human capital are essential to unlocking Africa’s full economic potential.
Ibrahim further stressed that African nations should prioritise intra-African trade, encourage private sector investment and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. He noted that reducing dependence on foreign aid would enhance the continent’s economic sovereignty, accelerate development and position Africa as a stronger player in the global economy.
The senator called on governments across the continent to embrace self-reliance by maximising local resources, improving productivity and fostering economic policies that deliver long-term prosperity for future generations.
