Political tension is mounting in Ogbomosoland following renewed allegations and counter-claims surrounding the political record of former lawmaker, Ayoade Adeseun, with stakeholders demanding what they describe as clear answers on his past political conduct and development footprint in the region.
The controversy, which emerged through a statement issued by the Ogbomoso Professionals Forum, has continued to generate debate across political and traditional circles, with sources suggesting that the concerns are longstanding but have resurfaced due to unresolved political grievances.
At the centre of the dispute are allegations linked to the 2011 governorship election in Oyo State, which resulted in the defeat of the late former governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala. Some stakeholders claim internal political realignments within Ogbomoso weakened regional cohesion at the time, though these allegations remain politically contested and unverified.
Insiders within the forum, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the issue continues to affect trust within the local political structure, insisting that clarity is needed on the decisions and alliances that shaped the outcome of that election.
Beyond political history, attention has also shifted to infrastructure projects allegedly linked to Adeseun in parts of Ogbomoso, including Ikoyi, Ajaawa, Igbon, and Ibapon. Stakeholders questioned the condition and sustainability of some roads and public facilities, arguing that accountability on project delivery remains essential for public trust.
One community source noted that while some projects generated expectations at inception, questions remain about their durability and current functionality, urging transparency on execution, funding, and maintenance.
The forum stressed that its concerns were not personal attacks but a call for accountability, insisting that public office holders must be open about their contributions to development and governance outcomes.
The statement also referenced the former senator’s rise from private enterprise into political prominence, arguing that while such trajectories are not unusual in Nigerian politics, the use of political influence must prioritise unity, development, and community stability.
Another key concern raised by stakeholders involves the traditional institution, particularly the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye. The group warned against any attempt to politicise or undermine the throne, describing it as a central pillar of peace, identity, and development in Ogbomosoland.
They further credited the monarch with ongoing developmental initiatives, including community infrastructure projects and security interventions aimed at strengthening local governance and stability.
The Ogbomoso Professionals Forum maintained that its position is driven by the need for transparency, historical clarification, and accountability, urging Adeseun to publicly respond to the issues raised.
According to the group, continued silence may fuel speculation and deepen political divisions within the community, especially as discussions around leadership and legacy intensify ahead of future political alignments.
As of press time, Ayoade Adeseun had not issued any official response to the allegations, and efforts to reach him for comment were unsuccessful.
