Bauchi Declares War on Drug Lords: 127 Arrests, 1,200kg of Narcotics Seized in First Half of 2025!
The Bauchi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a bold statement in the fight against drug abuse, announcing the arrest of 127 suspects and the confiscation of over 1,200 kilograms of illicit substances between January and June 2025.
At a press briefing in Bauchi on Thursday, State Commander CN Ali Aminu revealed that the bust included 118 men and 9 women. With 28 successful convictions already secured, the agency is determined to continue its relentless pursuit of drug traffickers, with 18 cases still pending in court.
Among the seized narcotics were 874.585kg of Cannabis Sativa, 330.588kg of psychotropic substances, and a mere 1.06 grams of Methamphetamine, colloquially known as “ice.” These items were part of the 1,205.174kg haul that is expected to disrupt local and regional drug trade networks.
Commander Aminu also highlighted the importance of prevention in the fight against drug abuse, reiterating the campaign theme for this year: “The evidence is clear. Invest in prevention, break the cycle.” He stressed that early intervention and educational efforts are critical, particularly among vulnerable groups like youth and women.
“We are sending a clear message: the war against drug abuse and trafficking is intensifying. Anyone who attempts to bring illegal substances into Bauchi will face severe consequences,” Aminu warned.
In alignment with the United Nations’ annual anti-drug day, marked globally on June 26, the briefing underscored Bauchi’s strong stance against the growing menace of illicit drug use, with authorities pledging to continue their offensive through ongoing awareness programs and public education initiatives.
