Residents and Motorists of Abeokuta the Ogun State capital are groaning over their inability to buy Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol, in the metropolis.
The fuel situation became worrisome on Monday shortly after the inaugural speech of President Bola Tinubu on subsidy removal.
The situation reports revealed that several filling stations that hitherto dispensed petrol at an average price of two hundred and thirty naira per litre suddenly closed their gates to customers.
As at today, Wednesday, only a few filling stations are dispensing the product at the old price of between N190 to N230 per a litre. The others are either not dispensing the product or selling at an exorbitant price of N400 per a litre.
A motorist who spoke to our correspondent lamented the untold hardship that the current situation has brought to the people, adding that she spent over six hours queuing for fuel on Tuesday, and which she only got 10 litres at the rate of N4,000.
I was also observed that transport fare has also been increased as a result of the fuel situation, while a lot of people, who could not afford the exorbitant increase in the fare resulted to trekking long distances.
The situation is also the same at Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Ifo, Ota, and other areas of Ogun State, as fuel price and transportation fare have both gone up.
