Ikorodu Cultism Crackdown: Police Hunt Gang Members After Arrest.
The Lagos State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on suspected cult activities in Ikorodu, launching a manhunt for alleged members of a cult group following the arrest of a 36-year-old man during an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect, identified by police as Muyideen Olatunbosun, was arrested by anti-crime operatives during patrols around the Idi-Iroko, Ogolonto and Agric areas of Ikorodu.
According to the police, intelligence received by the operatives during the patrol led to the arrest and subsequent search of the suspect.
The search reportedly resulted in the recovery of a rubber-made pistol, an axe, criminal charms and a substance police described as the illicit drug popularly known as “Ice.”
While the arrest represents another move against suspected cult activities in Lagos, attention has now shifted to the wider investigation as police disclosed that efforts were underway to apprehend other alleged members of the group.
Olatunbosun remains in police custody and is assisting investigators, according to the command.
The development comes amid continuing security operations targeting cultism and violent crime in Ikorodu and other parts of Lagos State.
Earlier in September, operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command arrested three suspected cultists following an intelligence operation linked to Ikorodu. Police said a locally fabricated, cut-to-size double-barrel pistol was recovered during that separate operation.
The latest arrest therefore highlights the continued deployment of intelligence gathering and targeted patrols by security agencies against suspected cult networks operating within and around Ikorodu.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives involved in the latest operation for their vigilance and response to intelligence.
Fatai said the command would sustain intelligence-led operations against cultism and other forms of criminality across Lagos State.
He also called on residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information capable of helping the police prevent crime and track suspects.
The latest investigation is expected to establish the extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement in cult activities and determine whether the items recovered are connected with other criminal operations.
Police have not announced any conviction or judicial finding against Olatunbosun, and the allegations against him remain subject to investigation and due process.
As investigators pursue other alleged members of the group, the operation could provide further information on suspected cult networks and their activities in the Ikorodu axis.
