2027 Election: Niger Christian Stakeholders Reject APC Muslim-Muslim Governorship Ticket
A coalition of Christian stakeholders in Niger State has declared its opposition to any attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field another Muslim-Muslim governorship ticket in the 2027 general election, insisting that the state’s religious diversity should be reflected in the party’s choice of candidates.
Speaking in Minna, the group, under the aegis of the Concerned Christian Stakeholders in Niger State, said Christians have made significant contributions to the political development of the state and should not be excluded from the governorship ticket. The coalition maintained that fairness, equity and inclusiveness should guide the APC’s candidate selection process ahead of the 2027 polls.
The group’s Secretary, Comrade Jude Johnson, said the stakeholders would resist any move to retain a same-faith governorship ticket, arguing that such an arrangement does not reflect the principles of equal representation in a multi-religious society. He urged political leaders to embrace inclusive politics capable of promoting unity, peaceful coexistence and public confidence in the democratic process.
According to the coalition, political parties must ensure that their nomination processes are transparent and sensitive to the religious and ethnic diversity of the state. The stakeholders warned that failure to address their concerns could influence the voting decisions of many Christian electorates during the 2027 governorship election.
They also called on the leadership of the APC in Niger State to promote fairness in the selection of candidates, stressing that inclusive leadership remains essential for sustainable peace, political stability and democratic growth.
The position of the Christian stakeholders is expected to add to ongoing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties continue to weigh zoning arrangements, religious considerations and electoral strategies in preparation for the polls.
