SENATOR DANIEL DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY FROM OGUN GOVERNMENT OVER INCREASED FEDERAL ALLOCATIONS
OGUN STATE – Senator Gbenga Daniel has called on the Ogun State and local governments to publicly account for the substantial increase in federal allocations received since the removal of the fuel subsidy.
The former governor made the demand on Sunday during his Midterm Community Assessment and Review Tour in Ijebu East Local Government, stating that both tiers of government must justify how the funds have been spent over the past two years.
Addressing constituents who raised concerns over poor roads, unpaid stipends for traditional rulers, and general neglect, Senator Daniel clarified that these issues fall under the jurisdiction of the state and local governments. He expressed sympathy for the underdevelopment of the resource-rich Ogun East district.
The senator also called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to revive the stalled Olokola Deep Sea Port project, an initiative from his own tenure, highlighting its potential to create over 50,000 jobs and transform the state’s economy.
In a significant announcement, Daniel revealed he has initiated discussions with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development to harness the vast bitumen deposits in Ijebu East. He credited President Bola Tinubu’s policies for revolutionizing the solid minerals sector, noting that revenue had surged from ₦6 billion to ₦38 billion in one year due to a new policy mandating local mineral processing.
