Ilaje Constituency II Shines Brighter as Hon. Wumi Fayemi-Obayelu Flags Off Solar Street Light Project

In a bold move to combat insecurity and stimulate community development, Hon. (Princess) Wumi Fayemi-Obayelu, Member of the Ondo State House of Assembly representing Ilaje Constituency II, has officially launched a solar-powered street lighting project across key areas in the constituency.
The project, which commenced this week in Ode-Etikan, is being rolled out in phases to cover critical spots such as residential neighborhoods, markets, road junctions, and school environments. The initiative is a direct response to rising concerns over nighttime insecurity and poor visibility that have threatened the safety and well-being of constituents.
Speaking during the launch, Hon. Fayemi-Obayelu underscored the importance of lighting in community security and economic growth.
“Our people deserve to feel safe in their homes and while moving about at night. For too long, Ilaje Constituency II has struggled with insecurity due to darkness. These solar street lights mark a new dawn—where safety, progress, and environmental sustainability go hand in hand,” she stated.
She emphasized that the choice of solar technology aligns with global best practices, especially in regions with erratic electricity supply. The renewable energy-based system ensures a reliable and sustainable power solution for public lighting needs.
In addition to enhancing security, the streetlights are expected to improve nighttime commerce, promote safer roads, and reduce accidents, thereby improving the overall quality of life in the constituency.
Hon. Fayemi-Obayelu assured residents that this is just one of several development projects her office plans to deliver, reaffirming her commitment to transforming the constituency during her tenure.
“This is just the beginning. We are working tirelessly to ensure that Ilaje Constituency II is not left behind in Ondo State’s developmental journey,” she declared.
As the installations continue, she called on community members to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and support its maintenance so that the project’s benefits can be preserved for future generations.
The initiative has already received widespread commendation from residents and stakeholders, who see it as a practical and impactful step toward addressing longstanding issues of insecurity and underdevelopment in the area.
