The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on security agencies to investigate the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, following recent revelations by the former Head of the State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke. Nwaeke’s statements suggest that state officials, allegedly under the direction of Fubara, orchestrated the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, APC Chairman for Rivers State, Sir Tony Chidugam Okocha, expressed the party’s belief that Nwaeke’s testimony, as the former Head of Service and the Number 3 official in the state at the time, carries significant weight. Okocha stated that the revelation cannot be dismissed as hearsay, given Nwaeke’s position and inside knowledge of state operations.
“The APC in Rivers State firmly believes that the relevant security agencies will thoroughly investigate this matter and reveal the truth to the public,” Okocha said. He further emphasized that the verbal attacks against Nwaeke, in response to his revelations, would not prevent him from continuing to expose what the APC sees as the wrongdoing of the suspended governor.
The APC had previously accused Fubara of being the mastermind behind the bombing. According to the party, the use of taxpayer money to orchestrate the attack, followed by Fubara’s personal involvement in supervising the demolition of the assembly complex, is an act that cannot be ignored, especially amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges.
“The suspended governor went a step further in less than 48 hours after the bombing to personally supervise the pulling down of the assembly complex, while his supporters cheered him on,” Okocha added.
The party also cited a recent Supreme Court ruling on February 28, 2025, which described Fubara as a “dictator,” further cementing the APC’s stance on his leadership style. “Yes, he was a dictator!” Okocha declared, linking Fubara’s alleged actions to the broader political crisis in Rivers State. The APC believes these actions led to the swift intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who declared a state of emergency to restore law and order in the state.
In his press statement, Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service, confirmed that the political crisis in Rivers State was orchestrated by Fubara, providing what the APC sees as an eye-witness account of how the governor allegedly masterminded the bombing of the State House of Assembly.
Okocha expressed that Nwaeke’s revelations had validated the APC’s earlier claims, highlighting the party’s role as the only effective opposition in Rivers State. The party also believes the revelations have strengthened its position as the voice of the voiceless and a beacon of hope for a better future for the people of Rivers State.
The APC continues to call for further investigation and accountability, with the aim of ensuring that justice is served for the people of Rivers State and the democratic processes that have been allegedly undermined.
