‘I am the Newborn Fela, I Don’t Want to Go to Prison or Die Young’ – Portable

Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely recognized by his stage name Portable, has once more stirred attention by proclaiming himself as a transformative influence in the music industry, drawing a parallel between himself and the legendary Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. In a candid conversation with Egungun of Africa, Portable expressed his belief that divine intervention has played a role in his journey, protecting him from individuals who sought to exploit his artistic gifts for their gain.
“I see myself as the new Fela; the only exceptions I desire are avoiding imprisonment and a premature death,” he asserted.
Identifying himself as the Ika of Africa, Portable exuded confidence about his burgeoning international reputation, confidently predicting that a major record label like Sony Music will soon extend a contract to him.
“I am a hero, I am a star,” he proclaimed. “Any artist collaborating with me stands a chance to either secure a Grammy Award or at least a nomination at the Headies, thanks to my ability to consistently create unforgettable chorus lines. It’s a blessing from God.”
Reflecting on his personal challenges, Portable highlighted that numerous individuals he once considered friends eventually revealed themselves to be poor influences and misleading advisers.
Turning his attention towards the youth, he urged them to steadfastly pursue their ambitions with determination and relentless effort.
“Fight for yourself and hustle hard! No one is going to hand you success out of nowhere,” he advised emphatically.
Portable’s trademark controversial statements and forthright demeanor continue to captivate the Nigerian music scene, cementing his reputation as an artist with a distinct style and authentic street appeal.
