Ogbomoso : One death too many, mysteries…….

It has been a devastating year in Ogbomoso area of Oyo state in the New Year which is in its first month, as prominent figures of the ancient town died in quick succession all in a spate of one month.

Reminiscent of the last one month, there was a dark cloud hooping over the sky of the town on December 12, 2021 and It was announced that the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Dr Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi JP CON CFR Ajagungbade III breath his last after 48 years on the throne of his forebears.

Followed was the death of two other first-class monarchs and one prominent politician in Oyo State and Ogbomoso had its share.

While the state and the people of Ibadanland still trying to come to terms with the demise of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Ogunguniso 1 who died on January 02, 2022, another tragedy struck the Ogbomoso land.

Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala exactly a month after the demise of the Soun of Ogbomoso bade the world farewell.

The former Oyo Governor died just 12 days after the New Year. His death came as a rude shock to many. Alao-Akala, who was born in Ogbomosho on June 3, 1950, died at 71.

Alao-Akala was a former police officer and a former Deputy Governor to Chief Rashidi Ladoja.

He became Governor when Ladoja was impeached. He was a candidate of the ADP in the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State before defecting to the APC.

His death according to the people of Ogbomoso will have a devastating effects on the people, particularly the less privileged as he was known to be spending over twenty million naira monthly to cater for the needs of his people even after he left office.

Late Akala, many said was a man who had positive impacts in the lives of his people and as well passionate about their wellbeing and would be greatly missed.

Professor Alex Gboyega, is the fourth prominent personality to die within just one month in Ogbomoso.

He died at the age of 76

Nigeria Standard learnt that Gboyega retired from the University of Ibadan.

He was a renowned professor of Political Science.

it was gathered that the deceased lived in Ibadan, the state capital.

Gboyega died a few hours after the death of a Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala.

Alao-Akala died at the age of 71 a few days after the death of the eldest daughter of immediate past Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi.
