Plateau Governor Imposes Strict Night Grazing, Vehicle, and Motorcycle Restrictions Amid Ongoing Violence
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has announced stringent security measures in response to the recent wave of attacks in the state. Starting Wednesday, April 16th, the governor has prohibited night grazing of cattle, banned the transportation of cattle by vehicle after 7:00 PM, and imposed restrictions on motorcycle use from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM across the state.
In a heartfelt statewide broadcast, Governor Mutfwang expressed his deep sorrow over the brutal killings in the Kimakpa area of Kwall District in Bassa Local Government Area, which occurred on April 13th, just days after over 50 lives were lost in Bokkos. He condemned the attacks as part of a “systematic and premeditated campaign” designed to destabilize and instill fear in local communities. The governor called for an end to the cycle of violence, declaring, “Enough is enough!”
Mutfwang, who has been visiting the affected communities, reassured citizens that his government is committed to protecting lives and restoring peace. “We cannot afford to let this unfortunate reality persist,” he said, urging for unity and resilience in the face of terror. The governor also acknowledged the swift response of the National and State Emergency Management Agencies in providing aid to survivors.
To strengthen security and community involvement, Mutfwang introduced several initiatives, including the activation of local vigilante groups and night patrols, coordinated with security agencies. He also called for traditional leaders and youth associations to play a key role in safeguarding their communities.
The governor outlined plans to establish a Special Envoy on Peace to engage in grassroots consultations and intelligence coordination, and to form a Fact-Finding Committee to investigate the root causes of the ongoing violence. Mutfwang reiterated his commitment to peaceful coexistence, saying, “The Plateau spirit is resilient. We are a people of peace, renowned for our hospitality and unity.”
In a powerful message to those behind the attacks, the governor vowed, “Your evil shall not go unpunished. You may run, but you will not hide. Plateau will continue its rise. Nothing will stop it. Plateau will prevail.” He emphasized that the state would overcome its challenges and continue to flourish in peace and prosperity.
