Farmers in Oyo State have expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, over the recent distribution of fertilisers aimed at boosting agricultural productivity across the state.
The distribution, part of the Federal Government’s broader intervention to strengthen food security and empower farmers, was facilitated by Chief Adelabu, who is also a prominent son of the state.
Speaking at the fertiliser distribution event held in Ibadan, the Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Oyo State Chapter, Engr. Olumide Ayinla, lauded the gesture as timely and impactful. He noted that the intervention would significantly improve crop yields, reduce poverty, and support farmers’ livelihoods.
“This effort by the Federal Government, facilitated by Chief Adelabu, will go a long way in ensuring that our farmers are well-positioned for the planting season,” Ayinla said. “Many farmers have been unable to afford fertilisers due to the current economic challenges, so this support means a lot to us.”
He also praised Adelabu for his transparency and dedication in executing the programme, adding that the Minister had always stood by farmers even before assuming his current role.
“Adelabu has been a friend of farmers for years. We are even considering honouring him with the title ‘Baba Agbe of Oyo State’ in recognition of his unwavering support,” Ayinla revealed.
He expressed optimism that the impact of the fertiliser distribution would soon reflect in the local markets, with a reduction in the cost of farm produce in the coming months.
“People will soon begin to feel the impact through a drop in food prices,” he added.
Engr. Ayinla further pledged the association’s support for Adelabu’s potential 2027 governorship bid, describing him as a true ally of the agricultural sector and a leader committed to rural development.
The fertiliser distribution programme aligns with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes food security, economic empowerment, and sustainable development.
