Former governor of Ogun State and Immediate past Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has paid a condolence visit to the Ikoyi residence of the late legal practitioner and renowned banker, Chief Olasubomi Balogun who died on may 19th, 2023 in London.
Arriving at the residence of the Balogun in company of his wife, Olufunso Amosun, Senator Ibikunle Amosun was received by the wife and family members of the late founder of First City Monument Bank, FCMB, Olori Abimbola Balogun.
Paying tributes to the late high-ranking Ijebu aristocrat, Senator Ibikunle Amosun said Otunba Olasubomi’s life and times was garlanded and signposted by significant accomplishments.
He said being a Commercial lawyer by training, late Subomi Balogun contributed so much to the growth of nation’s financial sector by pioneering the securities sub sector within the financial institutions market when he floated the highly successful City Securities Ltd, the precursor to First City Merchant Bank, which later metamorphosed to First City Monument Bank.
“I mourn the passage of an accomplished Nigerian of Ijebu, Ogun State extraction, a banker extraordinaire, entrepreneur of no mean order, culture icon, impeccable fashionista, and unparalleled philanthropist, our Baba, Otunba Olasubomi Balogun.
“My condolences go to Olori Abimbola Balogun, the children, family members, the Awujale of Ijebu Land, the entire Ijebu Royal Court and all those left behind to mourn this great loss”
Senator Amosun further acknowledged that Otunba Olasubomi’s life was not just about money making albeit God Almighty blessed him with so much.
“Baba in his life, stayed close to his Royal roots, promoted Culture and supported hundreds of good causes, charities and the work of the Gospel within his Ijebu homestead, Nigeria as a whole and even beyond our shores, His exceptional philanthropic disposition will be sorely missed, Fare Thee Well Sir, ” he said.
While stressing that Otunba Olasubomi’ indelible footprints and legacies of excellence everywhere he traversed particularly during the Nigerian Enterprises Promotion window and the indigenization era will linger on for decades to come, Senatorial Amosun prayed that may God Almighty repose his soul, grant him eternal rest and give the family he left behind and the entire people of Ijebu the fortitude to bear the loss.
Late Olasubomi’ Balogun a successful lawyer and banker whose work and professional career path traversed many other sectors, both in private and public. A hard worker with exceptional nose for business advantages and opportunities breathed his last in London at 89.
The demise was that of a titan whose footprints were golden tracks across different aspects of the Nigerian society, in his life time, well deserved honours and accolades came his way in torrents and was until his death, the Otunba Tunwase, Asiwaju Onigbagbo and Olori Omooba of Ijebuland.
