OGD Slams Abiodun: ‘Show Ogun People What You’re Doing with Tinubu’s Fat Allocations’

Senator Gbenga Daniel has thrown down the gauntlet, demanding that Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun come clean on how the state is spending its ballooning federal allocations under President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Sunday at the commissioning of the Renewed Hope International Market in Igode, Sagamu, the former governor praised Tinubu for boosting national revenue but wasted no time in challenging Abiodun to justify the windfall.
“The fallout of fuel subsidy removal is that more funds have been returned to states and Local Governments. Their allocations have increased more than fourfold, and governors must now give a good account of this generosity from the President,” Daniel declared, in what was clearly a stinging jab at Abiodun.
The rebuke comes against the backdrop of explosive growth in federal revenue. According to NEITI, disbursements to all tiers of government hit a record N15.26 trillion in 2024—up 43% from the previous year. States, in particular, enjoyed a 62% jump, from N3.58 trillion in 2023 to N5.81 trillion in 2024.
But in Ogun, critics say the impact of these funds is missing. Abiodun’s government has long battled accusations of cornering local government allocations. In 2023, Ijebu East LG chairman Wale Adedayo accused the governor of starving councils of funds, a claim the state dismissed as “augmentation.”
FAAC figures only pile on the pressure: allocations to states and local governments spiked to nearly N1 trillion in June 2025—double the N458 billion recorded in May 2023.
Daniel’s demand is more than an economic call; it’s a political strike. By tying himself to Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda while showcasing his own projects—like free eye surgeries and new market initiatives—Daniel is casting himself as the transparent alternative. And with the unveiling of his BATOGD Movement, the former governor is signaling his loyalty to Tinubu while daring Abiodun to prove his worth to the people.
