Over Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu Administration
A veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Stanley Amandi, has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The actor, a former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was reportedly taken into custody alongside some military officers and civilians linked to the alleged failed coup attempt. Although the arrest occurred in September 2025, details surrounding the case have only recently become public.
Security sources disclosed that investigations revealed Amandi was allegedly recruited to serve as a media and propaganda figure for the suspected plotters. The group is said to have planned violent actions, including targeted attacks on key government officials, as part of an attempt to unlawfully seize power.
The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that investigations into the matter have been concluded. Military personnel implicated in the plot are expected to face court-martial proceedings, while civilians involved will be prosecuted in regular courts in accordance with the law.
Amandi is well known in the Nigerian film industry, having worked as an actor, director, and production manager for decades. He has been involved in several film productions, both behind and in front of the camera, and remains a notable figure in Nollywood.
Authorities have assured the public that due process will be followed and that all those involved will be given the opportunity to defend themselves as legal proceedings commence.
