NATCOM Leadership appoints Adejare Adegbenro Acting DG
.....Promise to wage unrelenting war against illegal importation of firearms
A security expert, Adejare Adegbenro has been appointed as the acting Director-General, National Commission against the Proliferation of Arms, Light Weapons and Pipeline Vandalism (NATCOM), with a renewed commitment to fight illegal importation of arms and light weapons.
Dr Adegbenro was appointed as the Commission’s acting DG during a strategic meeting in Abuja, the Nation’s Capital.
Shortly after receiving his appointment, the Acting DG expressed confidence in the commission to combat the trends if illegal firearms which according to him responsible for high rate of crimes and criminalities bedeviling the country.
He however noted expressed resolve that the commission under his watch, there would be no room for merchants of conflict and crime, and expressed support for the new Administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Earlier, a vote of no confidence was passed on the immediate past Director-General of the Commission, Dr Baba Mohammed, by the Directors and State Commandants of the Organisation.
Presenting the position, Secretary, National Standing committee, Dr Fidel Adaba, attributed the move to the lack of accountability and transparency.
Dr Adaba reiterated that the decision to install Dr Adegbenro as the Acting Director-General of the Commission was that of the council’s members of state, directors and Commandants.
