The transition committee chairman, Abeokuta North Local Government, Prince Babatunde Tella has expressed his administration’s readiness to support the Correctional Center at Ibara, Abeokuta.
Prince Tella stated this during a courtesy visit of the Director, Correctional Center, Ibara and his team to his office at Akomoje.
The Council boss emphasised the wish of his administration to support the center by asking the team to put their prayers in black and white.
While welcoming the group to the Local Government, the Head of the Local Government Administration (HOLGA). Engr. Babatunde Odunlami FNSE, appreciated their presence and encouraged them to feel at home as the transition committee members of the local government are of large hearts.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Correctional Centre, Alhaji Shuaib who led the team stated that the visit is important for him to get acquainted with the government at the grassroots and to solicit for their support in running the affairs of the centre.
Alhaji Shuaib explained that the condition of the correctional centre needs urgent attention,they needed to provide sanitary materials, beddings,pay for inmates interested in taking NECO and WASCE and as well have tools in place for those interested in vocational studies.
He therefore called for partnership with the Local Government in order to make the centre more conducive for the inmates.
Shuaib added that there was a need to rehabilitate them so that they will be useful for themselves and the society at large after the completion of their jail term.
Appreciating their visit to the Council, the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Taiyelolu Egbeyemi, commended the Director for his initiative in caring for the inmates and rehabilitating them.
He assured them of the Local Government’s support whenever the need arises.
