A prominent Ijebu community group, the Ijebu Leadership Foundation, has publicly endorsed Ademorin Alliu Kuye, a member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Public Assets, as a strong candidate for the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
The call for support comes as the traditional council begins the process of selecting a new Awujale following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for 65 years.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the group’s coordinator, Keshiro Sulayman OluwaSesan, highlighted Kuye’s deep roots in Ijebu royal tradition and his upbringing under the late Awujale’s mentorship. According to the foundation, Kuye possesses the character, integrity, and cultural grounding befitting the esteemed traditional position.
OluwaSesan noted that Kuye’s royal lineage and mentorship under Oba Adetona—regarded as a ruler of notable reputation—distinguish him among other contenders for the stool.
He referenced the spiritual and cultural significance of kingship in Ijebuland, stressing that the role of a king extends beyond governance to serving as a spiritual intermediary and source of blessing for the people.
The statement further emphasized the importance of cultural upbringing and mentorship over political influence or social media campaigns in the selection of traditional rulers.
Prince Kuye’s career in public service includes roles at both local and state levels. The group pointed out that his experience and values—described as humble, progressive, and integrity-driven—make him a worthy ambassador for Ijebuland at national and international levels.
The Ijebu Leadership Foundation urged traditional authorities, local government officials, the Ogun State government, and Ijebu people to give serious consideration to Kuye’s candidacy as the selection process progresses.
