Final-Year Covenant University Student Dies After Collapsing During Training

A 500-level student of Covenant University, identified as Toluwase Jesutunmise, has died after collapsing during a football training session on campus.
The tragic incident occurred during a routine training exercise. The student was said to have actively participated before stepping aside after complaining of fatigue and leg pain.
Moments later, teammates noticed he was gasping for breath, prompting an emergency response as he was rushed to the university’s medical centre located near the training ground.
Despite swift intervention and efforts by medical personnel, including emergency resuscitation procedures, he was pronounced dead at the facility.
The university management confirmed the incident, stating that all necessary emergency protocols were followed and that there was no negligence on the part of its medical team.
Preliminary findings suggest the death may have been linked to an undisclosed underlying health condition.
The Vice-Chancellor, Timothy Anake, described the deceased as a vibrant and committed student, noting that his passing is a painful loss to the university community.
The institution extended its condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of support during this difficult time.
