CSOs Praise Bayo Ojulari for NNPC Ltd’s ₦5.76 Trillion Profit, Dismiss Critics
A coalition of civil society organizations has lauded Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), for achieving a remarkable ₦5.76 trillion profit in his first year, describing his leadership as a blueprint for structural reform.
The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice (CCSG-PSGEJ) emphasized that recent criticisms of Ojulari fail to capture the depth of ongoing reforms within Nigeria’s state oil company.
In a statement signed by National Coordinator Comrade James Okoronkwo, the coalition explained that what some perceive as slow execution is actually a calculated strategy focused on stabilizing operations and ensuring long-term transformation.
“While public discourse is welcome, the narrative that mistakes precision planning for lack of action is misleading,” the coalition said, highlighting the agency’s financial performance as proof of effective leadership.
Beyond profitability, the coalition noted improvements in upstream operations, including a boost in production under National Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL) to 330,000 barrels per day. Key initiatives like Project Integrity have helped curb sabotage and restore operational discipline.
The CSOs also recognized Ojulari’s efforts in advancing the “Naira-for-Crude” framework, which has stabilized downstream operations and supported the Dangote Refinery, positioning Nigeria’s energy sector for sustainable growth.
“Chief Bayo Ojulari is not a magician; he is a reformist. After a year of transformative actions, NNPCL is now ready for the next phase of development,” the statement concluded.
